WHERE TO BUY LOCALLY-RAISED MEAT IN RHODE ISLAND

If you have read any of my recent blogs, you will notice that my focus lately has been on local sources of meat/dairy and produce.  A few weeks ago I blogged about the RI Farmers Market Schedule, listing the day of the week that various farmers markets were open and their hours.

This posting is to help those of your in Rhode Island who would like to buy local meat products from local farmers but do not know where to begin.  The following list is from the Rhode Island Raised Livestock Association.

Additionally I have found the following list from Farm Fresh RI helpful in sourcing fresh local meats.

Sourcing and buying local fresh Rhode Island farm raised meats is simple and well worth the trip to your local farmer. If you are not from the RI area, the internet is a very powerful tool, start with a Google or two.

What are the some advantages of eating farm raised meat?

Eco-friendly, health-concerned consumers can enjoy numerous benefits from eating certified organic meat such as:  (click the link to read the entire article from Food World Guide)
WHERE TO BUY LOCALLY-RAISED MEAT
  1. Eco friendly – Organic foods produced by traditional farmers have less impact on the environment than the footprint conventional meat producers leave behind. In fact, farms specializing in natural products and organic meat will put more effort in conserving the soil and water. They will preserve natural resources.
2. Chemical free – Farmers providing a natural lifestyle for their animals will not use antibiotics, growth hormones and other toxins. The animals will be raised on wholesome feed, which is also grown without the use of harmful chemicals
3. Better health – The risk for dangerous diseases is far less when consuming organic meat. Living in cleaner environments, the animals producing natural meat will attract fewer parasites, viruses and disease-causing bacteria. By eating organic meat, you too can avoid some of those dangerous microorganisms we often hear about on the news.

The following is from the Rhode Island Raised Livestock Association and may be helpful to those of you seeking where to buy locally raised meats.
